Lammers (Smith), Marian Harriet

Passed away on July 10, 2023 in Jackson Michigan. She was continually surrounded by family with love and admiration.

Marian was born in 1934 to Leon and Marian (Rogers) Smith. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Smith and sister Jane (Smith) Brooks.  Her husband of 40 years, Charles Lammers, passed away in May, 2022.  They are reunited now and remembered by Clark Densmore, Jim Densmore (Joan), Scott Densmore (Cynthia), Brent Densmore (Melissa), Doug Lammers (Cindy), Cheryl Lammers, and Dan Lammers (Julie).

A proud grandmother, Marian is survived by Kelsey Lammers, Kyle Lammers, Jessica Densmore, James Densmore (Nicole), Jack Densmore, Kendall (Densmore) Clark (Casey) Jasmine Densmore, Erin Lammers (Ethan Santangelo),  Patrick Densmore, Nick Densmore, Conner Densmore, Allison Lammers, Emily Densmore, Travis Densmore, Brennan Densmore (Anna), Alarik Brethauer, and Olivia Brethauer. She was also blessed with several great grandchildren.

Marian graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She taught at Thurston High School, in Redford Twp., Michigan. She returned to teaching for 23 years at East Jackson High School in Jackson Michigan, where she impacted the lives thousands of young people teaching physical and health education, while also coaching basketball, volleyball, and life skills. She is well remembered by her colleagues and students.

Marian and Chuck retired to her beloved Douglas Lake, Johannesburg, Michigan. Marian's lifelong retreat and sanctuary.  There she was known as Captain Marian, Gran, Grandma, friend, and of course mom. Marian continued to hold "Kids Kamp", with her sister Jane and family. Children learned to swim, enjoy nature, reading, art and building relationships.

In addition to her family, Marian was active in the Alpine Regional Tennis Association, supported the local school district backpack program, and The First United Methodist Churches of Jackson, and Gaylord Michigan. She will be missed, but we are grateful for her peace. A celebration of Marian's life will take place at Douglas Lake in the summer of 2024.
