Maria Reyes Velasco
To know Maria was to love her. Maria Reyes Velasco was born in Stockbridge, Michigan on October 17th, 1953 and earned her wings on November 30th, 2017. She is survived by her beloved mother, Trinidad, and is preceded in death by her father Ernesto Velasco Sr. Maria watches over her children: Maria, Carlos and Angel; Grandchildren: Miguel, Daniel, Brian, Carlos Amado, Vincent Reyes, Aztlan, Mariana; Great-Grandchild: Dimitri; Siblings: Maria Nela Collins, Ernesto Jr., Jane Elizabeth (Lane) Murray, Gregorio Guadalupe (Nicki) Velasco, Angelita Velasco Gunn, Sarah Andrea (John) Vainner and half-sibling, Sabrina DiNotto. Maria was an artist and a published poet. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota being the very first in her family to attend college. Maria had an astonishing 29 year career with the Food & Drug Administration where she specialized in Public Health Education. She loved her familia. She loved trees and nature. She loved to dance. She loved to love. She was a kind hearted, wonderful soul who blessed the lives of all who knew her. In the later part of her life, she was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease but never let the disease steal her essence. She remained lovely, gaining a new enchantment for the world with every passing day. Maria was a one-of-a-kind spirit who will be held in the hearts of all she touched forever. Te Amamos, Maria.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday, December 8 at 11:30 AM with Father James Shaver officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home, before the service, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
