Oliver, Margaret "Gretta" (nee Greene)
Born in Dublin, Ireland on December 19, 1914 to John and Margaret Greene and received into heaven on Sunday, July 26, 2015, 100 years later.
Mrs. Oliver lived in the Rathmines neighborhood of Dublin until the outbreak of WWII, when she moved to England to work in a munitions factory. She met and married her husband of 30 years, George Oliver, there. They returned to the USA in 1946 finally settling in Jackson, MI in 1948. They became members of St. John the Evangelist Parish in 1950, where she remains a member.
She had several jobs throughout her life, as a counter girl in a laundry shop, as a wrapper in Gilbert's Chocolate Shop, and her longest as a nurse's aide at JCMCF. She retired in 1977, after 17 years.
She is survived by two daughters; Christina (Gene) Comito and Catherine (Jim) Hoekesma; four grandchildren, Alayna (Bill Warner), Angelo Comito, Nick and Lizzie Hoekesma and one great-grandchild, Lilah Warner. She was preceded in death by four children, Mary, Sheila, Paul and George Jr.
Mrs. Oliver is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Father Robert Pienta as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28 from
6–8 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:30 PM.
