MARCY KEEFE-SLAGER

Born into this life February 6, 1940; born into eternal life May 14, 2012. She was preceded into eternal life by her parents Thomas and Julia (Kirian) Keefe and her sister Ruth Ann Hermes. She is survived by her husband Harvey Slager, his children John and Elizabeth (Crawford) as well as granddaughters Amelia and Miranda and godson Jacob Keefe. She is also survived by her sister Marty Hohman and brothers Adam and Roger Keefe.

Early in her life she was specifically called by our God to serve God's people. In response to that call she became a member of the Sisters of St Francis (Tiffin, Ohio). While serving as a Sister she taught school, was a Pastoral Associate at several parishes in the Cherokee, North Carolina area; after completing a series of Clinical Pastoral Education units, she came to Jackson to be a Chaplain at Foote Hospital. While serving as a Chaplain she discerned the need to discontinue her relationship as a Sister.
She continued to serve as a Chaplain at Foote Hospital for 14 years. During that time she also became a Spiritual Director and continued in that role until recently. On June 12, 1992 she married Harvey Slager.

At some point in time she felt led by God to realize that her original call to serve God's people was a call to become an Ordained Priest in the Roman Catholic Church. Since the Church does not allow Ordination of women, she followed God's call to priesthood in many other ways. She was a blessing to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

In March of 2010 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She bravely underwent all of the treatments recommended by the medical community. When hope for successful treatment failed, she was cared for by Allegiance Hospice and eventually by Allegiance Hospice Home.

For those who wish to know more of Marcy's life you are encouraged to read her recently published book, An Echoing Call

She has donated her body to the University Of Michigan School Of Medicine.
