As retirement grew near, Dan and Mae decided it was time for a change. They have always enjoyed camping, from down in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee to Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Every weekend they found themselves back to a campground in Grass Lake, where they met many friends and enjoyed the slower pace. In 1979, Dan and Mae decided to sell the house and with their daughter Lynn, head west to Grass Lake where they purchased a home on Portage Lake.
Mae had many hobbies such as music, gardening, camping, fishing, love of birds, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards.
