VanderBeek, M. Noreen
Of Jackson, formerly of Kalamazoo, passed away in Jackson, Michigan on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the age 96. Noreen was born September 5, 1918 in Barcaldine, Queensland, Australia, the daughter of Michael Joseph and Mary Anne O'Neill (Quinn).
She was preceded in death (1996) by her husband of fifty one years ,Leo C., PhD, and sisters Katherine Mary (Kitty) Devine and Cecelia Mary (Molly) Sievers. Noreen was a World War II bride, arriving in the U.S. in 1946, following her marriage in 1944. She was extremely proud of her Aussie-Irish heritage, none-the-less, she became a U.S. Citizen, pledging her allegiance in the 1960's. Noreen was employed at Western Michigan University in the Office of the Registrar from 1968 until retiring in 1986.
She is survived by four children; Dr. Peter S. VanderBeek of Bloomfield Hills, Kelley Anne Brinker of Shelby Township, Catherine (Kit) V. Spoelstra (Thomas) of Jackson, and Dr. Michael L. VanderBeek (Susan) of Clarkston, and shared her unconditional love with 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Noreen was a member of St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo and Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church in Jackson.
A private Funeral Mass was held at Queen's Church in Jackson with interment to follow at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
