O'Connell, M. Robert "Bob"
Born December 11, 1923, passed away on Christmas Day, 2019 at the age of 96 years at home under the loving care of his family. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Lou; five daughters, Maureen (Ray) Brown of Louisville, Kentucky, Eileen (Ed) Idziak of Traverse City, Pattie (Charlie) Smith of Naubinway, Michigan, Kathy O'Connell of Jackson, and Peggy (Scott) Reynolds of Jackson; 3 grandchildren, Jason Idziak (Anna), Erin Richard (Terry), and Kelley Reynolds; 2 great grandchildren, Joey Richard and Benjamin Idziak. He was born in Freeport, New York and taught by the Vincentian Order. Bob served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mansfield Destroyer in the Pacific in WWII. He loved his time with his wife, his "girls", Upper Peninsula and many Ireland trips. A highlight of his life was going to Washington D.C. on the Talons Honor Flight for veterans. Bob will be remembered for his wit, humor, patience, and Brooklyn accent. He will be deeply and heartfully missed.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Fr. John Kettelberger C.M. as the Celebrant. Interment will take place at Lake Cemetery in Decatur, Michigan and Ireland.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Sunday, December 29 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Talons Honor Flight, Heartland Home, Heartland Hospice Care, or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
