Syrjamaki (Jensen) Lucille
of Jackson, passed away peacefully at home in the care of her family on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Lucille was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by seven children; Thomas, Stephen (Kathy), Robert, Charles (Debbie), Susan, Anne and Maggie; nine grandchildren, Thomas, Stephen, Michael, Valerie, William, Sarah (James) Szekely, Karen, Susan (Daniel) Linsell and John and a great granddaughter due this summer. Sister Donna Kirst and sister in law Helen Skelly and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Elmer in 2009, her parents Thomas and Rose Jensen, brothers; Thomas (Lou) Jensen and Richard (Molly) Jensen and brother in law Carl Kirst.
Lucille was born in Minneapolis Minnesota on May 8, 1921 and had a idyllic and delightful childhood growing up in the Riverside section of Duluth Minn. She graduated from St. Catherine College in Minneapolis with a degree in Library Science and spent a few years in Minnesota, Cleveland Ohio and here in Jackson as a Children Librarian. She married on September 4, 1948 and started raising her children.
She was a longtime member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She was also a founding member of Birthline. Lucille was also involved with the Right to Life, Catholic Daughters, Council of Catholic Women, AAUW Craft Group, St. Mary Altar Society. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and her family. She also enjoyed the Detroit Tigers, EWTN, Fox News, crossword puzzles and a good cup of coffee.
Mrs. Syrjamaki is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM followed by Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery. Father Tim Nelson will be officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2–4 and 6–8 PM. Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary Service Tuesday at 3 PM and a Parish Rosary on Tuesday at 6 PM.
