The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Lonnie Joseph Genix left this world to be with his angel, Kathy Genix (Miller), on Friday, January 6, 2023.
He is survived by his loving children, Michael Miller and Melissa (Justin) Brooks; grandchildren, Samantha Gipson, Rebecca Miller, and Hunter Brooks; great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Kayleigh Taylor and Alanna Clark; brothers, Larry, Sam and Greg; sisters, Maria, Tina, Karen, and Lisa; sister-in-law, Gladys (Richard) Gerry; and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Kathy (Miller) Genix; parents, Samuel and Marilyn (Burkhart) Genix and brother, Mickey Genix.
Lonnie was a jack of all trades from roofing to accounting and even tried his hand at selling cars! His favorite things were working on homes with his late brother-in-law Richard and fishing. He was a staple at St. Joseph Church working during bingo and festival times. He was always trying to make it better for those around him and enjoyed his time working with the Jackson Downtown Authority before suffering from a stroke in 2009. Though it slowed him down, he was, and remained, the rock of the family and we will all be lost a little without him.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Double Mass of Christian Burial for Lonnie and his baby brother, Mickey, will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chas Canoy officiating.
The family will receive friends at St. John's Church on Friday, January 13 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
