Passed away on November 20, 2011 and went home to be with her Heavenly Father. Lola was born on December 12, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Ernest and Marian Groth. She was the eldest of three children, Audrey and Emil. On August 3rd, 1950 she married Donald Boyd Peterson. Lola and Don gave birth to five children, four boys and one girl. After raising her children, Lola attended Spring Arbor College and received a Bachelors degree. Lola then worked for General Products for more than 10 years. Lola's deep caring for her community can be seen in the many volunteer positions she held. Lola was very active in the Michigan Republican Party. She held many leadership positions in the GOP, including Vice-Chair of the Michigan Republican Party, Chair of the Michigan 7th District Republican Committee and she was twice a Republican National Convention Delegate. She was very involved in the Right to Life of Michigan, Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish, The Food Pantry, NAACP, and many more organizations too numerous to name.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents and son, Daniel Peterson. She is survived by her husband, Don; her sister, Audrey Slone, Reading,MN; her brother, Emil Groth, Little Falls, MN; her children Donald (Connie) Peterson, Jr. Houston, TX; Kathy (Laney) Vanderford, Winnsboro/Greenville, SC; David (Sally) Peterson, Farwell/Battle Creek,MI; Dane (Jennifer) Peterson, Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren Stephen Peterson, Arlington, TX; Paula Peterson, Sanford, MI; Joseph Peterson MD., Royal Oak, MI; Stuart Sanchez, Houston, TX; Daniel Peterson, Albuquerque, NM; Dane Peterson,Jr., Atlanta, GA; and Anna Kate Peterson, Atlanta, GA; four great-grandchildren.

Lola had a great enthusiasm for life and for her family. She believed that the actions of one person could make a difference in this world and she worked very hard to prove it. Her persistence and dedication to her beliefs will always be remembered. She was always there for anyone who needed help and never asked anything in return. She was truly a one of a kind person who always sought to work for the good of others. She taught her children the meaning of hard work and determination through her everyday actions. Her belief in GOD was apparent to everyone who knew Lola. Lola will be missed by her family, friends and anyone who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 25th, 2011 at the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. A visitation at the Church is also available from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers a memorial made be made to the Queen's Church, Jackson County Republican Party, or Right to Life of Michigan.
