Sill (Mergler) Lilly
Lilly Mergler Sill was born on July 30,1932 and passed peacefully on February 25, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Lilly was born in Biebesheim, Germany where she grew up in the turbulent war years that taught her resilience and courage. That strength helped her to leave Germany behind to make a life in the United States with her military husband. "Ihre Heimat blieb immer in ihrem Herzen". Eventually landing in Jackson, Michigan, she started her family - Constance Johantgen-Poisson, Officer Niles F. Johantgen (dec) (Gwen), and Dr. Kirsten Johantgen-Schultze (Randall). As the matriarch, she passionately supported her children. Later, she fell in love and remarried Dr. Henry W. Sill. They shared their mutual love of international travel with the children and experienced many adventures together. Whether traveling abroad or cross-country touring, she always enjoyed returning home to her endless supply of stray dogs and cats that found their way to her front door. Lilly also focused much of her life on volunteering in her community. Actively involved in Tuesday Musicale, she served as their president for several terms and was an active member of their chorus. She was also a past officer of the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs. Sharing her love of music and her desire to inspire musical education to young people. She was the president of the Jackson Women's Club, as well as president of the Foote Hospital Auxiliary. Many will remember her from her years of volunteering in the Lobby Gift Shop and as chairwoman of the Pink Ball. Lilly Sill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren (Amelia and Connor Schultze, Mitchell Johantgen (Megan), Niles Johantgen, and Lauren Poisson (dec), and many beloved and cherished friends. She is now onto her next adventure with purse in hand.
