passed away Tuesday February 9, 2016 under the care of Allegiance Hospice House and his loving family after a brief illness at the age of 83 years. He was born December 16, 1932 in Jackson Michigan, the son of Oscar and Laura Deraedt. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Dolores "Dee", 3 children; Linda (Edward) Klee, Mark (Patty) Deraedt, and Jay (Robin) Deraedt; 6 grandchildren Benjamin, William, Christina, Jacob, Libby and Taylor; 1 great grandson Riley, a great granddaughter arriving in May, and several nieces and nephews. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Celina and brother in law Edward Haines, brother Alex, sister in law Ramona Holda and brother in law Jerome Smith.

Mr. Deraedt attended St. Johns High School, served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and spent several years as a snowbird in Florida. He was a tool and die maker by trade and he retired from Allied Chucker and Engineering in 1991. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, outdoorsman and a member of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish. He also enjoyed going to the casino with his grandson, William.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 12 at the Desnoyer Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Scriptural Rosary at 7:45 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Father Timothy MacDonald as the celebrant. The family will also receive friends at the church, prior to the Mass, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.

The family suggests that, instead of sending flowers, please consider a donations to the Allegiance Hospice Home or to Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.
