Leland Chapel Van Alstine was born March 22nd 1930 in Byron, Michigan. He entered the Church Triumphant on November 11th, 2024 at the age of 94.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Warner and Lucille Van Alstine; his daughter, Karen (Van Alstine) Wetzel; sister, Marsha Olrich,; brothers in law, Gerald Olrich, Raymond Hummel, Carl Hummel, George Young, and Richard Maas; and sisters in law, Norma Soules, Eulene Hummel, and Dorothy Young.
Leland is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Helen Jo-Ann (Hummel) Van Alstine; daughters, Lynette (Robert) Spring and Lisa (Mark) Kortz; son-in-law, Michael Wetzel; and grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Shrader, Christian (Jessica) Wetzel, Samantha (Chris) Okeson, Paige Kortz, and John Kortz; great-granddaughter, Zailynn Lazaya; sisters in law, Sandra Maas and Jo Hummel; and many nieces and nephews.
Leland was a graduate of Bryon High School (MI) and Michigan State University with a degree in Business/Accountancy. He served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He retired from Tecumseh products as corporate tax manager division controller in 1995.
Leland was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Red Cross, Friends of the Meijer Branch Library, and the Cascade Amateur radio Society where he was the treasurer for over 25 years. He enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events, reading, traveling, volunteering, and the Amateur Radio club dinners with friends.
As per his wishes cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a future date.
