Cook, Lawrence P. "Larry"
Age 77, passed away suddenly after a long illness, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Larry was born on April 26, 1946 in Jackson, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Dale and Frances H. Cook (Morrissey); brother, David Cook; father and mother-in-law, Earnest and Wilma Schelling; and sister-in-law, Evelyn M. Rice. He is dearly missed by his loving family; wife of 53 years, Marilyn; son and daughter-in-law, John and Christine Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Todd Howard; grandchildren, Torri (Connor) Hines, Tyler Howard, Cayden Cook, Elizabeth (Tyler) Cramer, and Jacob Phelan; great-grandchildren, Baby Girl Hines and Jameson, Lennon, and Baby Girl Cramer. Larry is also survived by his siblings, James D. (Margie) Cook, Marylou (Craig) Bush, and Robert (Sandy) Cook; brother-in-law, J. Lloyd Rice; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends and almost life long buddy, Jerry Phelps.
Larry was a student at St. John's Elementary and a 1965 graduate at Jackson High School. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He retired in September 2007 after 42 years at the "Flying A" Aeroquip (Eaton) Corporation. Larry enjoyed deer hunting here in Jackson and the UP, golfing with the kids and grandkids, forty five years of family camping, and fishing trips at Sugarloaf campground, trips to Baseball Hall of Fame, Tiger Games, and grandkids baseball and softball games. Until a few years ago Larry enjoyed hanging out at the Shamrock Bar with family and friends and "sipping" on his PBR. He loved his family so much and he was looking forward to being a great-grandparent again.
We appreciate all the doctors that helped him over the past 13 years, especially Doctor Hazzi and the staff at Doctor Nagesh and Doctor Matharu and Fresinius Kidney Clinic.
Larry is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chas Canoy officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 5 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, September 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
Instead of sending flowers, contributions to the Kidney Foundation, Leukemia Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research or Mott's Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
