Potter (Puhr), Laveta
Of Jackson, Michigan passed away Friday February 1, 2019, at the age of 91, at home with her loving family present. Laveta was born to Harley and Mary Bitner who precede her in death, on March 20, 1927. She was known throughout her large family as a baker of the tastiest cookies, cakes and other baked goods for birthdays, and other celebratory dates throughout the years up until 90 years old when she slowed down, but still made sure her children got their favorite baked goods made up until her last in January 2019.
She tirelessly hand wrote numerous recipe books for the family that comprised of over 100 recipes that will be treasured and passed along within the family. During World War II Laveta and two others traveled the USA as a musical group performing for many GI's through USO sponsorship. Laveta herself masterfully played four different guitars during their travels with USO. Preceding her in death were her husband of 30 years Alfred Puhr, and the father of their five children, her second husband Jerry Potter, and two special grandsons Matthew Soper, and Caleb Cannons. Laveta is survived by her five children; Ronald (Betsy) Puhr, Philip (Patricia) Puhr, Roxie (Patrick) Granger , Shirley Soper, and Sandy Cannons (special friend Edward Kasprzycki), a sister Maureen Pearce, cousin Mary Robinson, 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grand children and two great great grandchildren, and special canine companion, Flash.
Per her wishes Laveta has been cremated, and there are no services, or visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. We thank Heartland Hospice and their wonderful staff for the love and care shown to Laveta and her family.
Instead of sending flowers, contributions to Heartland Hospice would be appreciated.
