Wheeler, Larry "Shorty"

Of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 after a long battle with health issues.  Larry severed in the United States Army from August 1958 until February 1965, first with the Reserves and then deployed to active duty during The Berlin Crisis.  He retired from the Jackson Prison after 30 years.  Larry was an avid bowler with thirteen 300 games and coached youth leagues at Summit Lanes.  He enjoyed going to breakfast all over the Jackson area and could not go anywhere in Jackson without running into someone he knew.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy "Dottie"; four children, Cathy, Tim, Theresa (Walter), and Mark; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Pat and Mary.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chas Canoy officiating.  Interment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, December 9 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, December 10 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
