Coffelt, Kenneth Nolen
Ken passed away suddenly at his home from natural causes, Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born in Jackson on the Fourth of July, 1957 to Nolen and Sylvia Coffelt. After graduation from Jackson High School in 1975, Ken worked in the family business with his father before taking a position in Fort Lauderdale for several years. Ken married the love of his life, Cheryl (Walker), in 1983. They moved back to Jackson shortly after the birth of their first son, Kelby, who was also born July 4, on Ken's 30th birthday. He spent the majority of his career working for the Department of Correction for the State of Michigan, retiring in 2012. Ken also owned and operated a mobile lawn care repair business established in 2002. Upon retirement from the DOC, Ken purchased a building located in Summit Township, totally revamped it, and opened "The Mower Medic"full time with his youngest son Kalen. In 2019, he and Cheri then embarked on yet another business opportunity, restoring a portion of the building to house her vintage themed barber shop, "Summit American Barbershop" He enjoyed that extra time with Cheri and thoroughly enjoyed working with customers and employees alike.
Ken's greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren, Nolen and Natalie. He and Nolen, 4, started out every morning texting about how their day was going to be filled and making plans for one another. Ken also loved hosting family dinner on Sundays. He was incredibly proud of his two boys and the lives they created for their families.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheri, his two sons, Kelby (Amanda) and Kalen (Arianna), grandchildren Nolen and Natalie, his sister, Pam (Dan) Fitzgerald and their family, his mother-in-law Barbara Walker, brothers-in-law, Scott Walker and Terry (Cherry) Walker and their families. He will also be sadly missed by Sophie, his constant canine companion for over thirteen years.
Per his wishes, Ken has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 711 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Jackson, MI 49201 with Father Jim McHugh, O.S.F.S. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM.
