Kathleen Ann Wurdock, age 90, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Highland Alzheimer's Care, surrounded by her loving family and care givers.
Survived by five children, Michael (Judi) Wurdock of Minnesota, Barbara (Shahan) Shammas of Maryland, Mary (Peter) Schaefer of South Dakota, Patricia Furnival of Jackson, and Kathy (Jeff) Thomas of Jackson; 13 grandchildren, Timothy (Melissa) Wurdock, Thomas (Amy) Wurdock, Elizabeth (Scott) Perpich, Olivia and Emily Shammas, Joseph (Kelly) Schaefer, Anne Schaefer, Sara (Ray) Bennett, Carrie (Bol) Duot, Ryan and Emma Furnival, Josh and Matt Thomas, seven great grandchildren; Donald, Luke, Anthony, Nicholas, Oscar, Maggie and Samantha, including special nephew Joseph Wurdock. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles of 62 years in 2006, son Timothy James in 1959 and brother James B. Shaffer in 2009.

Kathleen was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Bay City, MI to Von H. and Kathryn E. (Ballotman) Shaffer. She attended secretarial school after graduation from Bay City Central High School in 1940. In 1944, Kathleen and Charles H. Wurdock married and moved to Vandercook Lake, after Charles' return from the Navy and later to Jackson, where they built the home they would live in for the next 50 years on Kensington Drive. Kathleen was a homemaker, and in later years worked at WIBM Radio, J.C. Penney, and as a school bus driver. Kathleen was a long time member of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church, where she was involved in volunteering during her children's school years. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, Foote Hospital Auxiliary and worked many local elections. Her interests included reading, knitting, crocheting, cooking, dancing, singing in the Queen's choir, camping with her family and she was an excellent seamstress. Her grandchildren benefitted from her many knitted gifts.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church on Saturday at 1:30 PM with Father Mathias Thelen officiating. Private interment St. John's Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7 PM. The family will also receive friends at Queen's Church on Saturday from 1 to 1:30 PM.

Kathleen's family would like to express genuine thanks to the loving care their mother received at John Ganton Countryside Retirement Center, Highland Alzheimer's Care and Great Lakes Hospice.

Her great sense of humor will be missed by all.
