Of Jackson, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 peacefully at her home with her daughters and husband by her side. She was under the loving care of hospice after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was a loving mother, grandmother (Grandma KK), and wife, who couldn't help but bring joy to the lives of those around her. She loved spending time up north, bird watching, gardening, and crafting, especially giving new life to antique furniture.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Julie Frey-Ineichen. She is survived by her parents, Benjamin and Dolores Frey, her husband, Andrew Smith, her daughters, Stephanie (Jeff) Tyler and Marcella Baiz, her grandchildren, Carly Kopicko, Jenna and JJ Tyler, her step-son, Jeff (Shannon) Smith, her sisters, Kathleen Frey, Patricia Frey, and Lisa (Mike) Wetzel, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren, and friends.

Her family will hold a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Monday, May 18, 2020 with Fr. Tim Nelson officiating followed by interment at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held later this summer and will include friends and extended family.

Karen was such a compassionate, loving, and good-hearted person. In lieu of sending flowers or donations, please do something kind for someone else in her memory.
