Judith Ann Walz

Judith Ann Walz, age 92, passed away peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by the love of her family, on August 3, 2026, in Jackson, Michigan.

Judy was born on August 24, 1933, in Battle Creek, Michigan. Her family later moved to Jackson, where she graduated from Jackson High School. She continued her education at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, beginning a career as a dental hygienist. She spent many years caring for children while working in a pediatric dental practice, combining her gentle nature with a genuine love of helping others.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life; her husband, Thomas Walz, of Jackson, Michigan.

She is survived by her children, Kristine Pursell, Kathryn Walters (Spouse Timothy Walters), Cassell Pursell (Spouse Peg Alford), and Christopher Pursell; her grandchildren, Sarah Shirk, Rachel Lerberg, Jacob Shirk, Magdalen Walters, Stormy Halstead, Nicolaus Enzweiler, Zachary and Saylor Pursell; and her great-grandchildren, Eleanor Hoff, Basil and Nala Lerberg, Anaya Walters, Sterling and Bodhi Shirk.

Judy found beauty in the simple things. She loved the outdoors and transformed her backyard into a sanctuary for birds, squirrels, and the many small creatures that found a safe haven there. Though she never thought of herself as an artist, those who knew her would disagree. She filled countless sketchbooks and pages with paintings and drawings inspired by nature, capturing the quiet beauty she saw every day.

She also possessed an adventurous spirit. Whether it was a road trip to Yellowstone or a journey across the Atlantic, Judy embraced new experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm. France held a special place in her heart. She spent time learning French, loved traveling there, and even labeled items around her home in French, a daily reminder of a place that brought her joy.

More than anything, Judy loved people. She had an extraordinary gift for making friends wherever she went. Her home was always open, her table always had room for one more, and everyone who entered her life was made to feel welcome. Her kindness, generosity, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She also had a special love for animals, especially her Corgis. Over the years, four faithful companions shared her home, bringing her endless happiness and becoming treasured members of the family.

In her final days, Judy found herself at home, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, curiosity, and unconditional love. Her family finds comfort in knowing that the warmth she shared with the world will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made in her name to the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.
