After 69 years of marriage, Josie Junior and Barbara Suzanne (Whitney) Bany peacefully joined Our Lord and Savior less than a week apart. Barbara, age 88, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020 with her husband Josie, holding her hand. Josie, age 90, passed away six days later, on Sunday, April 19, 2020.


Barbara was born, August 28, 1931 in Jackson, MI to Robert I. and Anna (Dendor) Whitney. She graduated in 1949 from St. John High School and maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates. Josie was born in Jackson, MI to Josie R. and Eva (Tullar) Bany. He graduated 1947 from Jackson High School. They were united in Holy Matrimony October 28, 1950 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Josie enlisted in the United States Army (1950-1952) and then continued his service in the Army National Guard. Josie worked as a lineman, until his retirement from Consumer Power, while Barbara worked as a medical receptionist for Drs. Jack and Mary Bentley. They were long time parishioners of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church. Josie and Barbara were active members of The Loyal Order of Moose and The American Legion.


They had many hobbies including travelling the United States in their camper, gardening, playing cards and bingo. Barbara and Josie enjoyed the holidays and special gatherings with family and friends. Most of all, they devoted their life to loving and caring for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.   They were preceded in death by parents, siblings, daughter Linda Rice and son-in-law Charles "Bill" Hughes.
Josie and Barbara are survived by their sons, Michael Bany and Timothy (Janet) Bany; daughter Diane Hughes; son-in-law Richard Rice. Grandchildren: Richard (Amy) Rice II, Todd (Wendi)Rice; Shawn Bany, Jeremy (Cheyanne) Bany; Ryan (Sarah) Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Lindsay (David) Kiefer; Sara (Jeremy) Hicks, Andrew (Kate) Bany and 12 great grandchildren: as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Henry Ford Allegiance Health. Also, a sincere thank you to Chris Desnoyer and staff at Desnoyer Funeral Home for their kindness.


An intimate graveside service was held on Wednesday April 22, 2020.; with Reverend Father Timothy MacDonald, Pastor of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church officiating. A celebration of Life and memorial mass will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to donor's favorite charity.
