Stevens, Joseph George

Of Jackson, Michigan, unexpectedly passed away on September 27, 2025 at the age of 60 years old. He is survived by his former wife and mother of his children Suzie Stevens; children: Joseph Stevens, Andrew Stevens, Adam Stevens (Taylor), Christopher Stevens (Katie), and Abigail Williams (Brett); siblings: Marcia Hills-Hoxie (Patrick),Greg Stevens (Susan) and Kevin Stevens (Melinda); nieces and nephews: Caitlin Cameron, Elizabeth Hoxie, Kate Stevens, Lauren Stevens, Daniel Stevens, Camille Stevens, Ryan Stevens, and Charlie Stevens. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsay Christine Stevens; father, Philip Stevens; mother, Julianne Mayo; step father, Robert Mayo; and brother in law, Jeff Hills.

Joe was born in Jackson, Michigan on April 23, 1965 to Philip and Julianne Stevens. He attended Catholic Schools and graduated from Lumen Christi in 1983. After high school, Joe attended Northwestern Business College – Technical Center and earned his Associate's Degree in Automotive Mechanics.

He was a man whose vibrant spirit and boundless love for life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Born and raised in the heart of Michigan, he was a true son of the state, with an unwavering devotion to Michigan State University and an unbridled passion for the Detroit Lions, cheering them on through every triumph and heartbreak. He had a love for the simple pleasures including pizza fresh from the oven and tending the grill on any occasion. He also enjoyed the lively accordion notes of polka music on a Sunday morning.

A master of making do, he could coax a roaring fire to life under any conditions, whether in the backyard or on a chilly evening in the house. His hands were those of a fixer, capable of mending anything from a stubborn engine to a broken chair, a skill that extended to the love and care he poured into his family. Throughout his life, he drove over a million miles in his trusty, well-worn "beater" cars, commuting tirelessly between Jackson and Dearborn to provide for those he held dear, each mile a testament to his dedication.

He was a storyteller at heart, with a gift for spinning tales and cracking jokes that could light up a room. No one was a stranger to him; he could strike up a conversation with anyone. His love for the tv shows "This Old House" and "Antiques Roadshow" reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. Above all, he cherished his family, the weather that shaped his days, and the moments spent laughing, grilling, or simply being together. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and the kind of stories that will be told for generations.

Joe was a busy, hardworking man who loved watching his kids flourish in life. He loved cheering them on in their sports, academic achievements, as well as many life milestones. Suzie and their kids were the lights of his life. He will be missed by many.
