Idzkowski, Joseph E. P.E.
Age 90, left this world on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife and dance partner of 64 years, Joy (Simmons) Idzkowski, children, Thomas J. Idzkowski, of Augusta, MI, Michael E. Idzkowski, (Nancy) of Powell, Ohio, and Joseph D. Idzkowski (Tami) of Portage, MI; grandchildren, Andrew Hinkle, Thomas Idzkowski II, Alexa Idzkowski, Nicholas Idzkowski, Kaitlyn Idzkowski and Alyssa Idzkowski; brother, Richard J. Idzkowski (Marilyn) of Lansing, MI, and sister, Dorothy (Gene) Matkowicz of Crown Point, IN. His daughter, Ann M. Klinko, parents, Joseph and Amelia (Jakubielski) Idzkowski, and brothers, Raymond J. Idzkowski, and Edward A. Idzkowski, preceded him in death.
Joseph was born in Hammond, IN, graduated from Washington H.S. in East Chicago, IN, was a US Navy veteran of WWII, a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Registered Professional Engineer-Electrical. A retiree of Consumers Energy, he was employed there for 34 years. He was a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and was an active member of local and national technical and professional committees. He authored several IEEE technical papers related to High Voltage Transmission Substation Design and was a member of a Working Group that authored a Design Guide for Grounding Systems in Electrical Power Transmission Substations that has received worldwide circulation. He also authored magazine articles related to Transmission Substation Design. For several years he was a part-time instructor at Jackson Community College. Joseph was a member of and officer in the Elks Lodge 113 and Moose Lodge 156, and he also participated in many local, civic organizations. As a long time member of St. John's Catholic Church, he served as an Usher and Lector and was elected to the first parish council.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 26 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Oratory, 707 N. Waterloo St., Jackson, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Contributions may be made to St. John's Parochial Schools, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
