Hesslau, Joseph Jay

Of Jackson, Michigan passed away at the University of Michigan Medical Center on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the age of 67.

Joseph, known to many as Joe, was born to George (TOC) and Delores Hesslau on March 10, 1955. Joe was a true craftsman in woodworking and refinishing Arts and Crafts furniture. His talent extended even beyond that, as he could build and create anything. He enjoyed going to many auctions and looking for antiques and furniture to refinish in his garage. In his time, Joe had a true passion for playing tennis and loved watching all sports; his favorites being Notre Dame football and St. Louis Blues hockey. He was avid about following the news everyday. In his free time, he enjoyed and took pride in his yard work. In recent years, what he looked forward to the most each day was having lunch with his wife, Lorraine and spending time with his family.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Lorraine Hesslau; his two daughters, Lindsey (Kyle) Smith and Shannon Hesslau (Brian Carney); and his two grandsons, Brayden Smith and Crew Smith. He is also survived by his many siblings, Greg (Therese) Hesslau, Maridee (Mark) Ryan, Sara (Marshall) Gandy, Tom (Maureen) Hesslau, Shelly Hesslau (Craig Shannon), and John Hesslau. Joe had numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Joe was very passionate in what he believed and had a very gentle heart. He was talented, handy, funny, and admired. He was an extremely hard worker, putting his whole heart into everything he did. He loved his family and was the best husband to his wife, Lori and the best father to his daughters, Lindsey and Shannon. He was so proud of all their accomplishments. He loved spending time with his son in law, Kyle and his daughter's boyfriend Brian. He enjoyed watching games, eating pizza, and just talking with them. He enjoyed watching his grandsons run around and got the biggest kick out of them. Most of all, he loved his wife and was so grateful for everything she has done for him. He will forever be missed and always loved.

We would like send a special thank you to everyone who helped Joe at Henry Ford on 6T and at the University of Michigan Medical Center on 6D.

A private Mass for family will be held at a later time.
