Of Jackson, passed away unexpectedly at the University of Michigan Hospital, with his family by his side, on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the age of 58 years. He was born in Jackson, Michigan on January 1, 1955, to James and Lenora Secord. On May 25, 2013, he married his best friend Caren M. Hayward at St. Joseph Shrine in the Irish Hills, by Father Tim MacDonald from Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church. He is survived by six children; Kara (Michael Nau) Secord, Jamie (Travis) Ziebell, Jason (Sidnee Duffey) Secord, Ryan (Jenifer) Hayward, Ashley Hayward and Mckenzie Hayward. Nine Grandchildren; Alexis Gene, Jackson James, Cooper Louis, Franklin John, Rayleeana Rian, Alexis Justine, Elijah Marquette, Brayden Ryan, and Collin Josiah. He is also survived by five sisters; Jackie (Bob) Erickson, Judy (Larry) Phillips, Janace Grzesek, JoAnn (Don) Bostedor and Joyce (Paul) Reynolds; two brothers; Jim (Pam) Secord and Jeff Secord; as well as many nieces and nephews, and Jill Secord.
John grew up and worked in the family business, Secord Meats. Then he started his own company John Secord Inc., doing wholesale meat and foods distribution. He was a member of Queens Parish and a past Grand Knight of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council 609. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was the strength and support of all his family and many friends. He was a generous and loving man, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 13, at 10:30 AM, at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church. Father Timothy MacDonald will be officiating, with interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, with a Rosary service to be held at 6:30 PM.
