Platte, John Paul
of Jackson, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the age of 91 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou of Flora, IL.; son, Michael A.; daughters, Diane, Mary Sue Norkey and Carol Terburg; brother, Richard; sisters, Rita Thomas, Nellie Haeck, Doris Repichowski, Kathleen Rigg, Joan Colbert, Jean Wirick and Ruth Pearson. He is survived by his granddaughters, Jacqueline Park (Scott), Theresa Stopyak (Scott) and Michele Kreider (Scott Rendon); great grandsons, Trevor Norkey and Carter Stopyak; great granddaughters, Ella Heavy, Mara Stopyak, Katelyn and Elizabeth Kreider; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends including Craig Rogers.
John was a police officer for the City of East Lansing during the 1950s. He moved to Jackson where he began a 30 year career as an insurance agent. Not content in retirement, he worked as a Greeter at Meijer and retired a second time in 2007, completing 63 years of gainful employment.
John enjoyed woodworking and gardening, but his favorite and life-long hobby was wine making. Starting as a young-boy stomping grapes, he watched wine making evolve into a streamlined process that came delivered to his home in a kit. But his favorite kits came from Cork-N-Cap in Jackson. John's last batch of wine was crafted in 2019. Those who knew him surely heard a story about the Platte Winery and may have been lucky enough to sample a bottle or two. John was a member of St John the Evangelist Parish where he was a past member of the Usher's Club and the Knights of Columbus.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family. Friends are welcome to view the service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 20 on St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Facebook Page. A private burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Church or the American Cancer Society.
All the pain and grief is over. Every restless tossing passed. I am now at peace forever. Safely home in heaven at last.
