Curran, John Patrick

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at his home in Spring Arbor, Michigan, at the age of 75. Born on January 13, 1950, at Foote Hospital in Jackson, he was the second of six children of Vernon and Jeanne Curran. John grew up at 610 W. High Street, where his love for baseball and storytelling took root.

John attended St. Mary's Grade School and was a graduate of Parkside High School, Class of 1968, where he was a standout left-handed pitcher, known for his skill and competitive spirit. His passion for the Detroit Tigers was lifelong, making frequent summer trips to the ballpark to cheer on his team. He also had a deep affection for Notre Dame football and cherished playing card games at family gatherings, where his booming Irish laugh was a constant presence.

John dedicated 37 years of his life as a journeyman machinist at Aeroquip Corporation (now Eaton), where he not only honed his craft but also built lasting friendships. It was there he met the love of his life, Colleen Gerighty, whom he affectionately called his "pretty little Irish Colleen." They married on St. Patrick's Day in 1996 and shared a love for travel and adventure until Colleen's passing in 2006, a loss that deeply affected John.  Colleen brought to their marriage her son, James, whom John embraced as his own. James became John's principal caregiver during his battle with colon cancer, a devotion for which the family is profoundly grateful.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Colleen, parents Vernon and Jeanne Curran, sisters, Patricia Taber and Kathryn Curran. John is survived by his stepson James Gerighty, brother Timothy (Melanie) Curran, sisters Joan Curran-Ellsworth (Roger), Peggy (Tim) Koenigsknecht and brother-in-law Larry Taber. He was affectionately called "Uncle Johnny" by his numerous nieces and nephews all whose lives were enriched by his stories, laughter, and unwavering love.
