Kujawa (Virt), Joan M.
Age 88, passed away in the company of family on Monday, March 20, 2017. She was born on February 18, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Katherine Kubilus and Chester Virt. Her early years were spent on Blackstone Street in Jackson prior to her marriage to Daniel Kujawa on November 5, 1949. They moved shortly thereafter to Vandercook Lake where they raised five children. Joan and her husband resided at their home for 63 years before moving to Summit Park Assisted Living Center in 2015.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who was particularly well known and loved for her magic in the kitchen. When her children were grown, she used her talents as a home cook to become a caterer, a profession she enjoyed immensely for more than 25 years. She loved spending summer weeks on Larks Lake in northern Michigan with family and friends. She was an avid reader, Detroit Tigers fan, and a U of M football season ticket holder for many years. The thing she loved most was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Elizabeth Desnoyer.
She is survived by her son, Michael Kujawa (Diana); and daughters, Susan McGrain (Brian), Margaret Schafer (Dan), Mary Ann Magiera, and Julie Heselschwerdt (Randy); grandchildren Brian McGrain (Rion Hollenbeck), Angela Ament (Allen), Anthony Kujawa, Amanda Kuhl (Justin), Andrea McGrain, Zack Pohl (Stefanie), Jessica Heselschwerdt, Patrick Magiera, Jacob Heselschwerdt (Ryan Ruggerio), Grant Heselschwerdt, and Kenny McGrain; and great-grandchildren Stella and Margot Pohl, and Aria Ament; sister, Mary (Tom) Shaughnessy; and several nieces and cousins.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Summit Park Assisted Living Center for their kind and compassionate care.
Mrs. Kujawa is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 9:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.
