Boyer, Joan Lee
age 73, of Concord, danced her way through the Pearly Gates of Heaven on Friday, March 11, 2011 after a battle with ovarian cancer. Joan was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Coloma, MI. After marrying Harold Boyer (deceased, 1993), Joan owned and operated the Joan Boyer School of Dance and Gymnastics for 52 years. Joan retired from teaching/coaching in 2008.
She is survived by her five children: Brad (Sandy), B. Lynn (Mike Gleeson), Blake (Mindy), Brigitte (Parker Laketa), and Brooks (Julie), her 18 grandchildren ranging in age from 24 to one, and two grandchildren that preceded her in death. She is also survived by her brother (Fred Ferguson, Redmond, Oregon) and sister (Bonnie Kroll, Kent, Washington).
There will be an open visitation at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Concord on Tuesday, March 15th from 4-8 pm.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Jackson on Wednesday, March 16th at 11:00 am. Respects can be paid at the church from 10-11 am. Father Eric Weber will be the celebrant.
Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St. Catherine's Church, 211 Harmon Avenue, Concord, MI 49237. The funds will be used to support the many programs Joan was involved in at the church.
Joan lived her life and taught dance and gymnastics by the motto: "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree." As Joan enters Heaven, the tree she left on earth is in full bloom.
