Dr. Jerry Arnold Strawderman, Ph.D.

Aged 78, passed away on December 11, 2023. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jerry was born on September 22, 1945 in Paw Paw, MI.  He grew up in the Battle Creek area, graduating from Harper Creek High School in 1963.  After high school, he attended Western Michigan University, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in Education.  While attending WMU met his future wife of 57 years, Lynn Crance.

The couple settled in Springport, MI, raising many farm animals and growing a huge garden.  Jerry taught in several school districts and worked in a variety of roles for the State of Michigan in a career spanning more than 30 years.  Jerry continued his education with a Masters Degree in 1970, an Educational Specialist Degree in 1976 and later his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and Adult Education in 1994, all from Michigan State University.

Teaching was Jerry's passion and he taught not only in the classroom, but as a Boy Scout leader for many years combining his love of the outdoors with his love for education.

Jerry was preceded in death by wife Lynn, his parents; Oral and Jane Strawderman.  He is survived by his children Kent (Becki) Strawderman and Laura Strawderman, Granddaughter Gwen Magiera, brother David (Victoria) Strawderman, sister Dianne (David) Curtiss and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Per Jerry's request, his body was gifted to the Michigan State University School of Medicine.
