Jean Masquelier of Jackson, MI passed away on February 25, 2019, at Arbor North Living Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, husband, Jerry, daughters, Jill Masquelier and Jan Bazuin. She is survived by daughter, Julie (Skip) Freysinger, grandchildren, Elizabeth Bercier and Alan (Dawn) Freysinger, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and an extraordinary number of friends. Jean was born in Big Rapids, MI at the onset of the Great Depression. At the age of 9, her family moved to Jackson. She often recalled Jackson as being a thriving, vibrant city with great opportunities for everyone in the 1940s. She graduated from Jackson High School and formed many life-long friendships. She never missed a JHS Class Reunion. She married Jerry, her husband of 65 years, after his discharge from the US Navy in 1950. She was a full time mom and devoted wife to her hardworking husband. Together they raised three daughters. Jean was completely invested in her family. She sewed clothes for the girls, was a Brownie Troop leader, PTA president and helped with many school projects for her daughters and neighborhood children. She was an avid reader and passed this love on to her daughters. Jean formed many cherished friendships through her employment at Crutchfield Chevrolet (Art Moehn) and the Jackson Public Schools. In retirement, Jean made musical Teddy bears and sold them at regional craft shows. She hand knit over 3000 hats for the babies at St. Joe's NICU in Ann Arbor where her daughter, Julie, was a nurse. She was a supporter of local charities and she and her husband, Jerry, often handed money to people in need. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Jean will be fondly remembered for her baked goods, especially her delicious pies. Her curiosity led her to extensive travel in America and many foreign countries. Most recently, she enjoyed activities at the Boos Recreation Center where she formed many special friendships. She enjoyed her brief residence at Arbor North, participating in bingo and knitting activities.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice and the dedicated staff at Arbor North, including the Henry Ford Allegiance Health Care Team. We would like to thank our many friends and family members for their visits, thoughts and prayers.
