Janet was born in Austin, Minnesota on May 4th, 1938 to Gladys and William O'Shaughnessy and passed away August 4th, 2014. She graduated from Rosary College in June 1960 after studying Education. She married Lynn Matzen on August 18, 1962. She is survived by her husband Lynn: three children; Bob (Paula), Colleyville Texas; Jeff (Kazuki), Jackson; and Jill, Sparks Nevada; sister, Karen (Jim) Shanahan, Buffalo Grove, Illinois; brother, William (Vicki) O'Shaughnessy, Carson City, Nevada and sister, Mary (Joe) Egler, Valley, Nebraska. Janet is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Kyle, Sally, Ryusei, Zac, Ayaka, Luke and Hikaru.
She displayed an unusual combination of characteristics in that she had a strong will; was well organized and had a great sense of humor. Janet was a resident of Jackson for over 40 years despite being promised only a two-year stay upon locating here in 1968. When you were the focus of her humor, it was gentle but you knew that you had been the target.
When dealing with others, she would always lend a helping hand without being asked and her conversation was focused on you and what you were doing.
Janet's practical approach to life and her values developed during her Catholic education and upbringing resulted in her being an excellent role model for her extended family and friends.
Chances are if you knew Janet you also knew that she was equally at home playing games with the grandchildren, preparing meals for guests, getting ready for a house full of company or pouring a glass of red wine.
Her legacy is that of a large, close knit family who have strong Christian values and who enjoy each other's company on a regular basis.
