Of Jackson, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord at age 82, on Monday, June 12, 2023.
She was born on March 23, 1941 in Bauer, IA, to Gladys (Gass) Thomann and John P. Thomann.
At a young age her family moved to Wichita, KS where she lived until the age of 12, at which time her family moved to Grass Lake, Michigan. Janet moved to Jackson, Michigan after graduating from Napoleon High School in 1959 to work at Ma Bell Telephone Company. She retired from Jacobson's in 2000 where she worked in the credit department.
She married Ronald J. Smith on June 17, 1961 (1985), and they had four (4) children. She later married Donald L. Holloway on September 11, 1993 (2005).
She is survived by her four children, Lynn (Dave Van Maelie) Herwat, Scott Smith (Janelle Riley), Mary Benson, and Margie (Mark) Ward. Grandchildren, Brenton Herwat, Katie (Robbie) Moore, Blake Herwat, Mitchell (Mikaela) Rockwell, Mark (Chelsea) Ward, Brianna Herwat, Angelica Smith, Mattasyn Ward, Demara Priggett and Miciah Holloway. Siblings, K (Robert) Gillette, John (Olga) Thomann, and Ginny (Jack) Zimmerman as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob M. Ward, sister, Patricia A. Reiger (Wells) and brother, O.J. Thomann.
Janet had a love of gardening, canning, knitting/crocheting, bowling, writing letters, ceramics, camping, playing euchre and bingo as well as having a talent for free-hand painting.
She never met a stranger as she had the keen ability to make you feel as if you have been friends for years. She had a great sense of humor, loved telling jokes and a smile on her face. She had a strong faith in the Lord.
Although she will be missed by her family and many friends, the family is comforted knowing she is at home with her God.
A Celebration of her life will be held at Desnoyer Funeral Home (204 N. Blackstone St, Jackson 49201) on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9:00 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of Mental Health.
