Henley (Wheeler), Janene M.
"The Cake Lady"

Peacefully passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 under the care of family and the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home at the age of 73 years. Cancer had fought Janene for 20 years and finally gained the upper hand, but not before she put up a brave and valiant fight. Janene was preceded in death by her son, David Anderson; her parents, Kendall and Ruth Wheeler; and her aunt and uncle who raised her, Sam and Loretta Hafley. Janene is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jim; daughters, Chris Wood of Jackson and Tricia Saunders (Jeff) of Tampa, Florida; son, Jim Jr. (Andrea) of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren, Kyle, Delaney, Danielle, Billy, Emma, Angel, and Andrew; brothers, Ken, Phil, Dennis, and Joe Wheeler; sister, Ruth Ann Wheeler; special sister in law, Pat Wheeler; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friend and neighbor, Sharon Harper.

Janene grew up on Gillettes Lake and attended St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and East Jackson High School. She was known by many as "Their Cake Lady." For over 40 years she created thousands of beautiful and delicious wedding, anniversary, birthday, and special occasion cakes. One would walk into her tiny kitchen as a potential costumer and leave as a new friend. Her life's journey was guided by her Faith, Family, and Friends. She leaves behind many dear friends; the Couples Bunco Group, the Eight Eats Dinner Group, the members of the Euchre Club, the St. John's 1962 Lunch Bunch; the Non-Bunco, Bunco Group (long story), the Morning Star Prayer Group, and the Monthly Bingo Group.

The family would like to thank Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice, especially the in-home hospice employees Angela Pedersen and Andrea Stahl, who filled Janene's final months with care, comfort, compassion, love, and laughter.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. According to her wishes, cremation will follow the funeral mass.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday, December 1 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also take place at Queen's on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.

The family suggests that, instead of sending flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice or Mission of Hope.
