Tuthill, Jan L.
Formerly of Jackson, died very unexpectedly in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 1, 2021. Jan was a longtime resident of Jackson before relocating to Grand Rapids to be closer to family. Born in Godlinze, Gronigen, the Netherlands, Jan immigrated to the United States in 1953. After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Dietetics, she pursued her career working in hospitals systems in Cleveland, Ohio and Jackson, Michigan. She continued her professional career in long-term care administration before taking early retirement. Jan freely shared her astute wit and love of good food with her family and friends, to whom she was devoted. She welcomed everyone into the Tuthill family home with love, baked goods, good books, and lively conversations. Her natural curiosity led her to read and discuss books on a wide range of topics. She also enjoyed leading classes in the church. Preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas, Jan is survived by her sons Timothy of Grand Rapids and Frank of Grand Rapids; three grandsons, Benjamin, Jacob, and David of Grand Rapids; her sister Ina Oosterhouse and her nieces and nephews; a special son Ties Vrenssen (Geraldine) and their daughter Cathelijne of Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Her parents, Gerrit and Menkelina Kremer, also preceded her. Jan was a faithful member of the Jackson First United Methodist Church and Grand Rapids First United Methodist. Memorial Gifts can be made to First United Methodist Church-Community Outreach or Grand Rapids First United Methodist Church-MLK Tutoring Program or the Movement. A virtual memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 2pm at the link below.
