At the age of 68, while surrounded by his family, James (Jim) Paul Utess of Jackson passed away on Friday, September 24 after suffering a stroke earlier in the week.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Mary Anne (Scheid); children, Emily (Steve), Courtney (Aaron), Elizabeth (Jerold), Arianne, Elsa (Chris); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gabriella, Stephen, James, Etta Rose, Traver, Ansel, Beatrix, Gracie, Faith, Christopher, Patrick, and Addelyn; his siblings, Louie (Mary Margaret), Kris (Dwight); siblings by marriage, Chuck (Connie), Leo (Suzi), Dan (Mary Beth), Dick (Kathy), Bob (Sue), Margaret (Roy), (Julie); and numerous other family members and friends.
His parents, Charles and Dorothy (Schroder) Utess predeceased him. His wife's parents, Paul and Rose Ann (Miller) Scheid and siblings Bill and Stephen aka Louie also predeceased him.
Jim was born in Greenville, MI and relocated to Jackson as a child. He graduated from Jackson High in 1971; then attended Jackson Community College where he met his wife. Together, they moved to Ann Arbor, where Jim attended University of Michigan Dental School. Graduating in 1978, they returned to Jackson to establish a dental practice and expand their family.
Jim loved his family most of all, but also the Indy 500, the cottage at Horsehead Lake, and watching U of M football games. He had a great sense of humor, was a patient man, enjoyed a cold drink, and was always there for his wife and daughters.
Visitation will be at Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday, September 30 from 2 – 8 on with a Rosary offered at 6:30. An additional visitation will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church at on Friday, October 1 at 10:30 followed by a Mass at 11:30. Per family request, please follow COVID protocol with masks and social distancing. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jim's name to Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church, St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church or to Mott's Children's Hospital at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
