Treciak, James Stanley
Of Jackson, passed away at the age of 85. He was born at home March 6, 1940 and died at home September 14, 2025. Preceded in death by his beloved first wife Carole Sue Treciak and mother of his children. He will be sadly missed by his three daughters from his first marriage, Kathleen (Edward) VanDam of Chicago, Suzanne Treciak of Ann Arbor, and Constance (John) Greene of Chicago; two granddaughters, Caroline Patricia VanDam and Kate Carole Greene, both of Chicago; and wife, Kathy and brother Tom Treciak. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley James and Virginia Eileen Treciak and sister, Jean Marie Treciak.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of St. John Catholic High School and 1964 graduate of Wayne State University accelerated dual-degree BA/JD program. He became a member of the State Bar of Michigan in 1964, earning emeritus status after his retirement. For over 50 years he was in private practice in Jackson and served over twenty years as an attorney for Jackson County Circuit Family/Juvenile Court.
James loved sports, particularly baseball, playing varsity four years in high school, intramural at Wayne State University and with the Jackson County Bar league. Converted by Carole from golfer to skilled tennis player, he became an avid player and follower. He was a voracious bookworm devoted to the love and study of reading, and a perennial patron of the Jackson County Public Library. While spending many summers on Lake Michigan, he would be found sitting in his adirondack chair devouring books on world history, detective/western genre or literary fiction, walking the beach, grilling steaks and watching sunsets with his family. He became a traveler, visiting his daughter's family in London, experiencing outdoor Shakespeare plays, Wimbledon and Parliament in action. His favorite American city was Chicago and he spent most holidays and long summer weekends there with his daughters and their families, receiving the morning papers to read cover to cover while successfully tackling the crossword puzzles, and attending Cubs baseball games, even though he was a Tiger fan.
All three of his daughters relied on his quick and encyclopedic memory and diverse knowledge. One of his granddaughters is following in his footsteps entering law school next summer, the other is starting her collegiate life at an Ivy League University as a D1 athlete. He will be missed but leaves a lasting legacy.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Jackson County Public Library would be appreciated.
"And you, my father, there on the sad height, curse, bless me now with your fierce tears… rage rage against the dying of the light I pray do not go gentle into that goodnight"
"Here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide) this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart..I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)."
