Passed away at Allegiance Hospital on August 26, 2011. He was born April 1, 1941 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Clyde William Roe, Jr. and Norma (Watts) Roe. His family moved a great deal in his childhood to various places across the US. He attended 20 different elementary schools before the family finally settled in the Jackson area where he graduated from East Jackson High School in 1959. He graduated from Michigan State University where he played for the MSU football team as a walk-on. He enjoyed a long career in teaching in Jackson, Texas, Kansas, Indians, and North Dakota. After retirement, he enjoyed substitute teaching in the Mid-Michigan area. Jim was devoted to sports and fitness his whole life. He was a runner for many years, but has concentrated on long distance bicycling for the last 15 years. He also found great enjoyment participating in plays and musicals in the Jackson area for many years.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Kim Potter; his son, Joshua Roe; his grandchildren, Austin Potter and Samantha Potter; his sister, Cheryl Roe; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friend, Tina Ticknor. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Jerry Roe, and his sister, Christine Page.

Jim is at Desnoyer funeral home where the family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Chaplain Douglas Barnes officiating.
