Tice, James M. "Jim"
Of Jackson, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the age of 78. He was born to Delbert and Ruth Robbins Tice on February 26, 1944 in St. Louis, MO. He was raised in Webster Groves, MO and spent his youth playing many sports in the Missouri sunshine. After graduating from Webster Groves High School in 1962, he attended both St. Louis
University and Washington University.
Jim proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Air National Guard of Missouri and the Reserve of the United States Air Force, specializing in
communications while stationed in Biloxi, MS. He married Wanda Ann Franklin on June 26, 1965 in Affton, MO and enjoyed a 57 year marriage.
Continuing a family tradition of telephone service, Jim began a 30 year career with the Bell Systems. They included Southwestern Bell, Michigan Bell, Michigan Bell Communications and Ameritech from which he retired in 1999 as an Account Manager. He received recognition and awards for his dedication to his primary accounts with Consumers Energy and Michigan State University. Among the many highlights of his career was the supervision of all communications for the 1992 Presidential Debate held at
Michigan State University.
Throughout his lifetime Jim enjoyed and participated in road rallies in his red Chevy Corvair, golf, touring lighthouses and log cabins, refinishing furniture, cutting the lawn on his John Deere and watching football. His years of playing the trumpet led him to a love of music that included a fondness for jazz, bluegrass and country. Always willing to give back to his community, Jim coached little league and participated in the Civitan Club activities including appearances as Santa Claus. He and Wanda have been members of the Queen's Parish for many years. After retiring, he often immersed himself in Genealogy research, sharing many exciting discoveries with family. Many of his favorite memories were those times he spent watching his son Bryan
and grandson, Ben, on the football field. Jim took great pride in the academic, athletic and career successes of his children and grandchildren who knew him as Poppy! He was a quiet man who was grateful for the blessings of his life and never failed to say "Thank You".
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Ruth Tice; brother, Richard and wife Marilyn; great niece, Emily Sassenhagen; In-Laws, Gleason and Victoria Franklin; sister-in-law, Connie Peek and
brother-in-law, Darold Peek.
He was grateful for the companionship of his beloved pets, Laddie, Magoo, Totem, Huey, Angel, Buster Kitty and Kodabear.
Jim is survived by his wife and best friend, Wanda; son, Bryan (Meredith); daughter, Christine; grandchildren, Whitney (Rocco) Novellino, Quinn, Callyn and Benjamin Tice; great-grandchildren, Rocco and Gianna Novellino; brother, Gene (Eileen) Tice; special niece, Kathy (German) Rivera; nephew, Mike (Judy) Peek; and many nieces and nephews in Missouri, Arizona and Texas.
