Morris, James Michael "Mike"
Of Jackson, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 72 years old. He is survived by his wife, Deb; stepdaughter, Jamie Dake; siblings, Bev (Bob) McOscar and Dave (Gail) Morris; nine nieces and nephews, many cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Church Morris and mother, Rosemary (Conley) Sarrine.
Mike attended St. Mary School until the 11th grade and was in the first graduating class of Lumen Christi High School in 1969. He was a proud St. Mary Celt and made lifelong friends from grade school and those neighbors from Chittock Street.
He worked at Citibank before moving on to the machining industry. He became a foreman at Kent Moore for many years until its closing. He then went on to be the Assistant Instructor of Machining at the Jackson Area Career Center for 19 years and retired at the age of 65. In his retirement, he was "Driver Mike" at Segue. He was quite popular at every place he worked throughout his life and cherished those friendships.
His real joys came in the area of sports and friends. He played softball and golf and was a life-long bowler. He was also a longtime umpire for the City of Jackson. Every Sunday morning for over 35 years, he golfed at Sharp Park with his buddies. But, even more impressive, was his dedication to his bowling league - he retired from bowling last year after 51 years in the 700 Bowling League at Jax 60 (formerly Airport Lanes).
Mike was affectionately known as "Merc" and was a longstanding member of the Grotto Club. He was a fan of all Detroit sports and would often go to Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Wings games. But all that knew him, knew that he was a diehard Michigan State Spartan first and foremost!
He will be greatly missed by "the girls" and his best bud, "Kody Boy."
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Grotto Club (102 E. Washington Ave, Jackson, MI 49201) from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Since Mike was a true MSU fan – Sparty friend or foe is encouraged to wear the Green & White in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made St. Mary Catholic Church or the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
