James Edward Markiewitz Sr.

Of Jackson, passed away under the care of his loving family and the staff at the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at the age of 93½  years.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth O'Meara Markiewicz.  He is survived by his two children, James Jr. (Susan) Markiewicz and Anne Markiewicz (Michael Pahl); and three grandchildren, Meaghan, Ryan, and Molly (Ian).

Jim was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict.  He owned Kellys & Woodys Variety Stores, was employed by Jackson County for many years and then became a real estate broker for Century 21.  Jim enjoyed ice cream, golf, playing poker for quarters (with the local retired priests), and bowling.  He was a former board member of the CP Federal Credit Union and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Jim was a longtime supporter of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, and Lumen Christi.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Timothy MacDonald officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Church on Friday, April 25 from 10:15  to 11:00 AM.
