James "Jim" Marchewka, age 90, of Vista Grande Villa, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 25, 2015. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia Shelden Marchewka and their children JoAnn Brennan, Shelden (Lisa) Marchewka and Christopher (Conni) Marchewka . He was a devoted Grandfather to Matthew and Patrick Brennan and Nicholas, Jordan and Alyssa Marchewka. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Amelia (Karpus) Marchewka, brothers Peter and Paul "Vic" Marchewka, sisters Jacqueline Roels and Patricia Kinard and son-in-law Thomas Brennan. Jim is also survived by sisters-in-law Alberta (Al) Stadler and Shirley Judge along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim graduated from East Detroit High School In 1943 and from The University of Michigan in 1949, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. He served in the Philippines with the Navy's Seabees from 1943 until 1945 when he was Honorably Discharged. Jim was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and World War II Victory Medals and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. His first job in the Journalism field was in Illinois, as a reporter for The Belvidere Daily Republican Newspaper, where he worked his way up to the position of Editor. In 1962 he relocated his young family and returned to Michigan to join the Editorial Department at The Jackson Citizen Patriot Newspaper, retiring in 1994 at the age of 70. Jim enjoyed playing the piano at family gatherings, golfing with his sons, photography, computers and avidly following University of Michigan sports. The family would like to thank Allegiance Hematology, especially Diane Bohn, N.P., and Allegiance Hospice House for their exceptional care and outpouring of love.

Jim was a faithful and devoted servant of the Lord and parishioner of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, Jackson, Michigan where a visitation will take place at noon on Saturday, February 28, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 1 p.m. Father Tim MacDonald will officiate at the Funeral Mass. A private interment will take place in Illinois.
