Moran, Howard H.

Of Houghton Lake, passed away at the Mt. Pleasant Woodland Hospice House on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the age of 76. He was born October 12, 1937 in Jackson, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Diane, his son Mike, his parents John and Marjorie, his brother John, sister-in-law Connie, and his brother Charlie.

Howard is survived by his loving children, Timothy (Diana) of Westland, Christopher (Sandy) of Livonia, Patrick (Meg) of Yorba Linda, CA, daughter-in-law Michelle of Livonia, Mary (Rich) Hill of Mt Pleasant, and Anne Smith of Felton, CA; grandchildren Kate and Tim Moran, Jennifer Moran, Andrea Edgar and Jolie Wahmuth, Nicole and Andy Moran, Casey and Evan Hill, and Shane Smith; great grandchildren Octavian and Everett Steiner, and Audrey Truxell. Also surviving are siblings Barbara (Dave) Hilderley, Michael (Lois), sister-in-law Patricia, Joe (Hope), Phil (Barb), Janet (Pat) McCormick, Peggy (Pete) Kalbarczyk and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was the fourth of nine children, six boys and three girls. They grew up on Blackman Road in Jackson, Michigan. He married Diane Ellen Tobin in 1956 and had six children. He moved to Westland in 1959 and resided there until 1978 at which time he headed west for some new adventures. He retired from the city of Bullhead City, where he worked for 15 years. He began his career at Jackson Commonwealth as a draftsman and continued in that profession at Taylor Engineering until 1976 before moving west. He enjoyed his adventures out west but when he retired he longed to be back in Michigan where the majority of his family resides. Like many of his family members, he loved the Houghton Lake area and decided to move there to continue creating fond memories. Many of those memories were made at Poplar's resort where several of his family members vacationed annually beginning after his four nieces; Debbie, Judy, Laurie and Marti started the tradition.

Howard is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Blackstone, Jackson, Michigan where a service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 10:30 AM with Father Robert Pienta officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels program at the Houghton Lake Senior Center, 2625 S. Town Line Road, Houghton Lake, MI 48629.
