Strunk, Henry John
of Jackson, Michigan passed away August 7, 2020 at the age of 87. A long-time resident of Jackson, Henry spent most of his working years in power boiler design. He was employed by Jackson-based Commonwealth Engineering starting in 1973. He had the opportunity to work on the design and support the build of several major power plants throughout the United States. Henry ended his long career at the age of 70 as an assistant manager at the Jackson County Incinerator.
During his years of retirement Henry continued relentlessly in his passion for home improvement; both on his own home and his friend's homes. He was always most comfortable when working on big project and never said "no" to anyone who asked for help or advice. Always a lover of the building techniques of antique furniture, Henry enjoyed restoring his own antique furniture – turning junk into treasures. One of his favorite saying was: "Whatever you do, make it look professional."
Henry was born June 28, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the youngest of seven children, all deceased. Henry volunteered for the Army in 1953 and served his country during the Korean conflict. He was stationed on bases at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Smith, Arkansas and Camp Polk, Louisiana. He was a consistent "Soldier of the Month" wherever he was stationed. He was a member of an Honor Guard sent to Abilene, Kansas for the opening of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and Museum in 1954.
Henry married his wife Doris at St. Andrew's Church in Saginaw, Michigan on August 2, 1958. The couple, with their two sons, lived in Saginaw, Michigan and Enfield, Connecticut until moving to Jackson, Michigan in 1973.
Henry is survived by his wife Doris, two sons Stephen (Christina) and Christopher (Linda). He has two grandchildren Alexander and Harrison.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Fr. Tim Nelson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:00 AM.
Instead of sending flowers, contributions to St. Mary's Church would be appreciated.
