Hank peacefully passed away at Sparrow Hospice House of Mid-Michigan with his daughters by his side.  Hank was born in Jackson, Michigan, to parents Helen and Henry Sr. He was raised in the community and attended East Jackson High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He also played with the Jackson All Stars Independent Football League and received a trophy for his contributions.

His professional legacy began when he enrolled in the U.S. Navy at age seventeen, as a Seaman. He advanced to RM3 Radio Supervisor (Morse Code) aboard the USS Pawcatuck, a Fleet Replenishment Oiler, based in the Mediterranean Sea.  After his honorable discharge from the Navy on May 14, 1955, he completed an apprenticeship in the trade of Electrician through the United States Department of Labor and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Jackson Local 933.

In 1966, he received a vocational certificate for Trade and Industrial Education from the State of Michigan, Department of Education, and taught Electrical Apprenticeship evening classes at Jackson College.  In 1962, he was hired by the Jackson Public Schools as Chief Electrician, after receiving his Class 1 Electrical Contractors License from the State of Michigan. He continued in this role until 1968, when he was promoted to Supervisor of Operations and Grounds. In 1979, Hank advanced to Director of Plant Planning reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools. This role encompassed a multitude of diverse responsibilities including oversight for new, and renovations of, buildings and grounds projects. A chief accomplishment was the planning, implementation, and completion of renovations to Withington Stadium at Jackson High School. During his tenure he received numerous accolades from members of the community for his positive impact, and ensuring needs of the Jackson Public Schools were met.

Hank retired from the Jackson Public Schools in 1986 and became a self-employed Maintenance/Custodial Consultant. From 1987 to 1988, he served as the Plant Engineering Supervisor for Sparton Electronics. He acted as Energy Consultant for Michigan School Business Officials from 1988 to 1990. While working in this role, he was also an Electrical Inspector, Department of Building and Safety for the City of Owosso, Michigan, from 1989 to 1990. In 1990, Hank obtained licenses as an Electrical Inspector Plan Reviewer and Master Electrician from the Michigan Department of Labor, Bureau of Construction Codes, and joined the City of Jackson Inspection Department.

While on leave from the Navy, Hank became enamored with the girl next door, Elizabeth (Liz) Scott, whom he wed on September 25, 1954. Upon Hank's retirement from the City of Jackson Inspection Department, he and Liz enjoyed spending winters at Rambler's Rest in Venice, Florida. They were ardent dog lovers parenting three Cairn Terriers and one Miniature Schnauzer.

Hank was blessed with the gift of gab and would strike up a conversation with anyone willing to listen. He enjoyed eliciting smiles and laughter from everyone he encountered through his knack for telling jokes or asking a silly question such as, "Do you accept Hawaiian money?" He was nicknamed, "The Candy Man," by the community as he always had a baggie full of candy ready to share with everyone he met. Due to his diverse background and skill set, Hank could often be found helping family, friends, and neighbors with projects and was given the moniker "Handy Hank."

His legacy will be revered and shared for years to come by those who were fortunate to have known him.
Hank is cherished by surviving family members who know him as "Brother" to Richard Shore, "Dad" to Susan, Kathryn and Lisa, "Papa" to five grandchildren, "Big Papa" to fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and as "Uncle Hank" or "Uncle Junior" to several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Scott), parents Henry Sr. and Helen (Chelbus), brothers Daniel and Leonard, and sister Virgilene (Hamilton).

A Celebration of Life for Hank and Liz will occur in May of 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Jackson, Michigan. Details forthcoming to family and friends.
