McGarry (Van Winkle), Helen
A resident of Jackson was born on June 15, 1921 and passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012. She was the daughter of Don W. And Annabel Van Winkle. On October 28, 1940 she married Burton G. McGarry II who preceded her in death. Together, they owned several businesses including a woman's clothing and shoe store, B. McGarry, on the campus of the University of Michigan. Helen was on the board of directors for the Howell National Bank for over 30 years. She was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Jackson and a was a member of Tuesday Club. Helen was a volunteer at Hospice and the gift shop at the Ella Sharp Museum.
She is survived by her children: Burton G. McGarry III and Ann (Bruce) Purmell, grandchildren, Michael McGarry Purmell (Claudia) and Hilary Freymuth (Phillip), and her great granddaughter, Kaila Lily Freymuth.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Lawrence Walters officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Helen's name may be made to the Salvation Army, Allegiance Hospice or St. Paul's Episcopal Church would be appreciated.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday, November 3rd from 12 Noon to 1 PM.
