aged 93, passed away on January 10, 2010 at the Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, MI. Born on October 6, 1916 in Roslsselare, Belgium to Julius and Julia (Wyffels) Maes, Hector together with his mom, dad, one brother and three sisters came to America in 1929 and traveled to Jackson, MI.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Mary A. Maes, and his children, Joseph (Cathy) Maes of South Lyon,MI, Tom (Jeanie) Maes of Brooklyn, MI; Margaret (Daniel) Pierson of Grand Rapids, MI; Jerry (Joanne) Maes of Jackson, MI; and Anne (Greg) Ford of Bloomington, MN.
In addition he is survived by 11 grandchildren: Alicia, Kyle, Ryan, Christopher, Amy, Kate and Nick; Chad, Sean, Lindsay and Fabian and eight great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Maes and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Gerard, his brother, Omer Maes, and his three sisters Mary Sprangel , Martha Flack, and Betty Alderman.
Hector began his career as a tool and die maker at Thorrez & Maes before moving onto Miller Tool and Die. Following his dream to own his own shop, he and his partner,Ed Mack, began working nights in Hector's garage. From there he started Maes Tool and Die in 1955 and worked there into his mid 70's. Hector was a lifelong member of the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church where he and his wife, Mary, faithfully attended Sunday Mass and, upon his retirement, daily Mass and communion. Hector and Mary belonged to the Perpetual Adoration Society since it's beginning at Queen's Parish.
Hector will be remembered as a loving husband and father, and for his delightful sense of humor, his kindness to all and the love, faithfulness and commitment to his Catholic faith, which helped him create a holy way of living. He prayed the rosary daily and was a faithful participant of the daily televised Mass on ETWN. Mr. Maes is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church Friday, January 15, 2010 11:00 AM. Interment St. John's Cemetery. The Rev. Robert H. McGraw officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and at the Church on Friday from 10:30 to 11 AM. Rosary Thursday 3 PM. Vigil Service Thursday 7 PM.
