Harvey W. Slager of Jackson left this life to meet his Savior on May 23, 2025 after a long illness.
Harv was born on August 11, 1942, in Long Island, New York, the son of Nelson and Gertrude Slager. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marcy Keefe-Slager.
Harv is survived by his children John Mark (Kim) Slager of Berlin, Germany and Elizabeth Slager (Charles) Crawford of Glade Park, Colorado and was grandpa to granddaughters Amelia, Miranda, and Shiloh. He is also survived by three sisters, Judy Andela, Marcia Geelhood, Eunice Garrett and several nieces and nephews. Harv was also blessed to have the care of Marcy's family and good friends Charlene Gulley and Jane Globig and their families.
Harv attended Calvin College and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Engineering. He was a long time Jackson resident and employee of Consumers Power Company. In later years, he served as a chaplain at Foote/Allegiance hospital, bringing comfort to patients, families, and staff.
Harv volunteered as a tax preparer for Community Action Agency for many years, finishing his last tax season with the residents at Vista Grande Villa in April of this year. He also served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Evangelist and St. Ritas Catholic Churches.
In a final act of giving, Harvey willed his body to the University of Michigan for research. Although he did not qualify, his desire to help others was clear in his request.
Cremation has taken place and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 13 at 11:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Timothy Nelson officiating. Â Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Church.
Rest in peace, Harvey. Your passing has left a void in many lives and a hole in many hearts.
