Harry Charles Wells

(age 65) of Jackson, Michigan passed away on August 26th following a recent surgery. Harry was a lifelong resident of Jackson, and served for over 35 years as a teacher in the Jackson School District. He taught Marketing and Cooperative Education, as well as Driver Education between 1974 and 2002. As such, he helped thousands of students build strong work skills and over ten thousand students learn to drive. As recently as last year, former students would approach him in stores or restaurants to say hello and to thank him for teaching them. Between 2005 and 2014, Harry was a Special Education teacher for Jackson Schools, earning multiple Board commendations and the deep appreciation of parents and students. Throughout his career, Harry Wells was devoted to the students and staff of Jackson Schools and was most effective in helping struggling students find success.

Harry was born May 10, 1951. He attended Howe Military School as a young man and later graduated from Jackson High School and Western Michigan University. He married Lea (Roy) Wells in 1978. Together they raised two sons, Jason and Michael. Harry loved raising the boys and was dedicated to supporting their success in school and hockey. He was particularly proud of the men they grew to be with Jason becoming a Pulmonologist and Michael pursuing his creative talents as a Chef in Las Vegas.

Harry's family and friends will remember him for his quick mind, great sense of humor, and his love of history and politics. They will also remember him for his lifelong love/hate relationship with the Tigers and the Lions, as well as his passion for U of M football. Finally, they will remember how he loved to travel. Harry took many trips with his young family, and in recent years, he traveled frequently to Lake Michigan and Naples, Florida with his dear friend, Laura Surrey of Brighton.

Harry is survived by Lea Wells (Las Vegas, NV), Colleen Lebel (Las Vegas NV), Dr. Jason Wells (Portland, OR), Michael Wells (Las Vegas, NV), two daughters-in-law and one grandchild.

The family is planning a private graveside service to honor Harry's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harry's name may be made to The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
