Heins P.E., Gordon Lawrence
Born on September 23, 1929 in Nashville, TN passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ellen M. Heins (Fitzgerald); children, Dave (Cathy), Lawrence E. (Linda), Susan M., Thomas J. (Lisa), Patricia A., Christopher J., and Matthew R. (Judy); 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, James Heins, Raymond Heins, and Judy Disser; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Julias Heins and Blanche Heins (Rice).
Gordon graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Columbia University with an Executive MBA. He worked for Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, and was drafted into the United States Army where he served and was honorably discharged. Gordon was certified as a Professional Engineer and worked at Consumers Power Company for 35 years where he rose to Senior Vice President.
Gordon served as Trustee for Summit Township Board as well as a volunteer firefighter for Summit Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Jackson County Fire Investigation Team. Gordon volunteered at the Boy Scouts of America, Jackson JC, Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Jackson District Library, and the Jackson Museum. He contributed to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Gordon was an avid reader, enjoyed sailing, loved his walks with Mom, and frosted malts from Cascades Ice Cream Shop.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
